Ikea Announces Accessible Furniture Project- Video Is A Must Watch!

LeAnne of @lavenderslongshot brought to our attention that Ikea has announced an Accessible Furniture initiative, called Ikea ThisAbles! LeAnne spends a lot of time on her Instagram platform bringing awareness to accessibility and people with disability since her husband Derek was in a motorcycle accident and is now in a wheelchair.

(It should also be noted that LeAnne & Derek have an adorable Bernese Mountain Dog Bakus, of course with his own Instagram handle-@barkue_adroolius.)

We immediately tried to look up the new products and although we did not find a catalog of products on ikea.us what we did find is SO cool and SO innovative. According to the Washington Post article, they are currently only available in Isreal, which is also home to the first Ikea store “accessible living spaces” or the but kudos to Ikea for being one of the first to pay attention to this need and market! But on their website, It looks like the ThisAbles project has identified current Ikea products that could be used by those with disabilities, and you can also download the 3-D printing maps of the new products that have been developed to get them printed anywhere in the world. That is some futuristic stuff right there!

ThisAbles project was created to enable people with special needs to enjoy the quality of life provided by IKEA products. ThisAbles.com
